Harrisburg Chapter: Pennsylvania NOW

Women's Equality Day

by Rosemary Newhart

The ERA Walkathon, held on Women's Equality Day, August 26, drew about 30 walkers. They were wearing green and white "ERA Yes" and chanting and singing along the 10 mile route. Ginny Thornburgh walked the first leg of the march with us. Dixie White and Ann Marie Van Dyke spoke at the rally, and the Capitol City Folk Dancers provided music and dancing on the Square following the walk.

We owe thanks to many groupsand individuals for participating and contributing in so many ways. Indeed, ERA supporters are everywhere! Our question is, "Where were all the NOW members on Women's Equality Day?"

If 30 walkers can generate $1,500, think what the results. would be with even token support

from our full chapter membership. It is not too late to do something. Pledges are still coming in. Send contributions to the NOW office, attention Janice and Rosemary.

Susan Barley, Mary Nancarron and Rosemary Newhart are attending the national conference in Los Angeles to participate in the election of officers and formulation of policy for the coming year.

Josele Cleary is handling pre-registration and registration arrangements for the Pennsylvania NOW convention in Gettysburg. NOW members are needed to take turns staffing the registration booth during the convention. Please call Josele or leave word at the NOW. office if you can help.

punishment, permission cards are being distributed for signatures. (See sample).

Lori Hair was recently elected secretary of the local chapter to complete the term of Josele Cleary who resigned. The chapter will have representaion at the Lesbian and Gay Rights March in Washington, DC on October 14.

The chapter has activated a committee on sexual harassment on the job which is being chaired by Lucy Jordan.

In November, election of officers for 1980 will take place. Members need to be thinking and planning ahead. Your voices and votes are needed if the future of Harrisburg NOW and the women's movement is important to you.
